EFFECT OF RUNNING SPAWN IN SUBSTRATE BLOCKS LOCATED OUT OF THE GROWING ROOM ON THE VOLUME OF YIELD IN CULTIVATED MUSHROOM, AGARICUS BISPORUS

Summary

Four growing cycles were carried out in air-conditioned growing rooms over 1999 to 2000. Incubating the spawn was conducted in 0.5x0.4x0.15 m sized substrate blocks, weighing 18 kg each (104 blocks in every turn). Blocks laying on euro-pallets were arranged into stacks in 7 layers. Each layer was separated by a pallet. The upper layer with unloaded blocks constituted the control treatment (check). The registered run of temperature has shown that there exists a possibility of keeping optimum temperatures for the mushroom spawn, irrespective of the layer. This resulted in uniform growth of mycelium, measured as reaction (pH). The load of blocks did not exerce any significant effect on the yield of mushrooms. No occurrence of competing fungi in the substrate was observed. Running the spawn in stacks located outside growing rooms allows for intensifying the mushroom production.
