Summary

Investigations into the response of both consumable and seed onion, on incindence of onion yellow dwarf potyvirus (OYDP) have been carried out over 1991-1995. It was ascertained that infection of consumable onion with potyvirus of yellow dwarf had decreased the total yield and the yield of 1st class (onions above 4 cm in diameter) by about 30% and 60%, respectively. The drop of yield of seeds in susceptible cultivars (Oporto, Wolska) reached up to 100%. Seeds coming from infected plants were characterized by the lower energy and power of germination as well as by a weak emergence. From among the native and external onion cultivars having been compared, the least susceptibility to this disease have shown Rawska and Kutnowska, while the utmost one - Oporto and Wolska.
