THE RESPONSE OF SNAP BEAN AND BARNYARDGRASS (ECHINOCHLOA CRUS-GALLI) ON QUIZALOFOP-P-TEFURYL

Summary

Studies have been conducted in 1997-1998 at The Institute of Vegetable Crops in Skierniewice. The aim of the research was to determine the influence of graminicides and its various application methods on snap bean and Echinochloa crus-galli (Barnyardgrass) control. Tested graminicides quizalofop-P-tefuryl and quizalofop-P-ethyl were applied by either single or split application method. In the experiments, quizalofop-P-tefuryl was applied at full rate of 30 and 40 g ha-1 in single treatment executed at 4-6 leaves stage of Echinochloa crus-galli, whereas the reduced rates of split application were 16+16 g ha-1 (2-4 leaves of Echinochloa crus-galli and 10-14 days later). The rates of quizalofop-P-ethyl were 50 g ha-1 and 20 + 20 g ha-1, respectively. The results revealed that graminicides gave satisfactory Echinochloa crus-galli control. Quizalofop-P-tefuryl at the rate of 40 g ha-1 was as much effective as quizalofop-P-ethyl at the rate of 50 g ha-1. Graminicides applied by split application method gave better Echinochloa crus-galli control in 1997 than treated by single application, but in 1998 the results of weed control obtained by using this method were much lower. Herbicides were selective to snap bean. The differences between the yields from herbicide treated plots and untreated ones were significant in 1998 only. The results showed that quizalofop-P-tefuryl can be utilized for Echinochloa crus-galli control in snap bean.
