Summary

Little information is available on the occurrence of the diamondback moth (P. xylostella) in Brussels sprout crops in Belgium. The abundance of the adults was measured at 10 locations during 1994 to 1997 using pheromone traps.A supervised control of P. xylostella caterpillars was tested into practice. Flight activity of the diamondback moth occurred from mid May to the end of August. Seasonal variation in abundance was observed in 1994, '95, '96 and '97 and appears to depend on weather factors. A supervised control of the larvae based on the abundance of the adults caught in pheromone traps can greatly reduce the number of treatments in Brussels sprout crops.
