EFFECT OF EXTRACTS OBTAINED FROM SOME PLANTS OF UMBELLIFERAE FAMILY ON PIERIS BRASSICAE L. AND ITS ENDOPARASITE APANTELES GLOMERATUS L.

Maria WAWRZYNIAK
Technical and Agricultural University, Kordeckiego 20A, 85-225 Bydgoszcz, Poland

Summary

The objective of the presented herein research was to show that under our climatic and soil conditions there are plants, the extracts of which demonstrated detrimental influence on pests. Preliminary estimation of the effect of the tested plant extracts on endoparasite of cabbage butterfly - Apanteles glomeratus L. has also been carried out. Lovage (Levisticum officinale) appeared to be an interesting plant. Alcohol extracts taken from its root revealed a strong deterrent effect on the cabbage butterfly caterpillars. However, an alcohol extract from angelica (Archangelica officinalis) caused a considerable egg reduction of Pieris brassicae under laboratory conditions and 100% larvae mortality during 6 days from incubation. Under field conditions, butterflies did not lay their eggs on plants treated with water extracts from Umbelliferae. Extracts applied on eggs kept on plants caused their high lethality.
