THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT FACTORS ON THE EFFECTIVENESS
OF EMBRIOGENESIS IN HEAD CABBAGE ANTHER CULTURE

Summary

The experiments concerning factors affecting embryogenesis in anther culture of 4 head cabbage cultivars were carried out. There were considered such factors as: genotype, conditions of donor plants chilling and subsequent growth, florescence phase and hours of bud collecting.
It was found that a genotype had a prevailing effect on the effectiveness of embryogenesis in the anther culture. The most embryogenic was the cultivar Kamienna Głowa and the least one was cultivar Hako, out of 4 tested. Also, remarkable differences among clones derived from the same cultivar were found. In the case of donor plants growing under controlled chilling and growth conditions three times more embryos were obtained than from the donor plants growing under uncontrolled conditions of an ordinary greenhouse. The intensity of androgenesis in anther culture depended on the florescence phase of the donor plants, but the optimum phase was different for each cultivars. In the cultivar Sława z Enkhuizen embryos were obtained only in anther culture initiated from buds collected before flowering. For the cultivar Langendijker the most beneficial was the end phase of flowering. The embryos were obtained from buds collected at different hours during the day, but for every cultivar the optimal hours were different. For the cultivar Sława z Enkhuizen the best were the afternoon hours, whereas for the cultivar Langendijker the most suitable was the time between 10.00-13.00  o\"clock.
