CULTIVAR EFFECT ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF AGARICUS BISPORUS  FRUIT BODIES, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON DRY WEIGHT

Research Institute of Vegetable Crops Konstytucji 3 Maja 1/3, 96-100 Skierniewice, Poland

Summary

In the years 2000-2003 three series of experiments were conducted in conditioned growing chambers. Yield and quality parameters were compared between two cultivars belonging to large hybrids (F40) and mid-range hybrids (F58). It was found that fruit bodies of large-fruiting cultivar had significantly higher dry matter content, firmness and tissue density, lower weight losses during storage and they were whiter. The yield of large hybrid cultivar was lower than the yield of mid-range hybrid cultivar. Significant differences in quality in favour of large hybrid cultivar play an important role in cultivars selection for local market production and export.
