INFLUENCE OF WEATHER CONDITIONS ON NATURAL INFECTION
OF POTATO TUBERS BY COMMON SCAB (STREPTOMYCES SPP.)
IN MEDIUM EARLY CULTIVARS

Halina KURZAWIŃSKA, Iwona GAJDA
Agricultural University of Cracow 29 Listopada 54, 31-425 Kraków, Poland

Summary

During 1999-2002 the studies were carried out on four medium early potato cultivars: Balbina, Kolia, Maryna and Triada. After harvesting the tuber samples were taken in random to evaluate both the average degree of infection and percentage of tubers infected by Streptomyces spp. Then the next two analyses were carried out in three months intervals.
The obtained results have indicated the highest degree of tuber infestation by Streptomyces spp. for the cultivar Kolia, while the lowest one for Triada. The latter cultivar have also demonstrated the lowest percentage of infected tubers.
Both percentage and degree of infection by Streptomyces spp. were highly dependent on meteorological conditions in individual years.
