DIVERSITY OF ANTHER CULTURE
- DERIVED R0 GENERATION OF BRUSSELS SPROUTS

Summary


Two donors P2 and P4 of Brussels sprouts from the cultivar "Philemon F1" and their 174 androgenic R0 plants derived through anther cultures were evaluated for ploidy level and morphological characters both in vegetative and generative stage.
Androgenic R0 generation was diversified according to ploidy level: 29.3% were assigned as haploids, 55.2% were diploids, 13.8% - tetraploids and 1.74% octoploids and aneuploids. Androgenesis for donor P2 was twice that of P4 as a smaller number of pedigrees from single embryos were obtained, however, only small differences in ploidy level between P2 and P4 pedigree were observed. Broad frequency distribution of morphological traits among androgenic R0 plants derived from different embryos and according to their ploidy level in comparison to their control cultivar was observed. Production of the large population of diploid R0 plants with diversified morphological characters showed high effectiveness of anther culture technique as a breeding tool for Brussels sprouts.
