CHARACTERISTIC OF BRUSSELS SPROUTS PLANTS
OBTAINED BY ANTHER CULTURE

Summary

Ploidy was assessed of the Brussels sprouts plants regenerated from androgenic embryos obtained in anther culture. Haploid plants were treated with colchicine to double chromosome number. Colchicine was applied to plants in vitro, young plants during transplanting or detached shoots. Vigour of diploid plants was evaluated at the stage of 14-15 leaves.
In cytometric studies, it was found that diploids occurred among plants of Brussels sprouts regenerated from androgenic embryos with frequency depending on cultivar.
Around 50% plants and 25% of detached shoots survived colchicine treatment. The most effective method of colchicine application was soaking of roots at transplanting of plants with 4-6 leaves in 0.1% colchicine solution amended with 4% DMSO and 25 mg . L-1 GA3, for 6 hours in greenhouse at 22-35oC.
Vitality of diploid androgenetic plants of Brussels sprouts varied and depended on cultivar.
