ANALYSIS OF PHENOTYPIC VARIATION OF WHITE HEAD CABBAGE ANDROGENIC DH LINES IN VEGETATIVE STAGE

Piotr KAMIŃSKI
Research Institute of Vegetable Crops Konstytucji 3 Maja 1/3, 96-100 Skierniewice, Poland

Summary

The aim of this study was to evaluate phenotypic variation of six doubled haploid (DH) lines of head cabbage of R1 and R2 generation. During two years of experiments (1998 and 2000) several morphological traits (head mass, head shape coefficient, internal stump length) and their range of diversity were evaluated. DH line PK1 had the lowest value of head weight among all compared lines. There were also important differences in variation between the years for head mass of two PS6 and PS8 lines. DH lines presented the comparable values (mean and range) in both years of testing for head shape and internal stump length. Two DH lines (PS6 and PS9) with longer internal stump should be also rejected for the further breeding programme. Only three DH lines (PL3, PK1 and PS2) had desired morphological traits and stability in consecutive generations and might be suitable for the breeding purposes.
