LEAF ANATOMY AND CYTOLOGY IN FIELD-GROWN
"BLUNT WITH BLOSSOM" CUCUMBER

Summary

The cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) "blunt with blossom" is an abnormal morphological shape caused by environmental stresses and prevalent in the cucumber products. By light microscopy (LM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) procedures we. sses.ental sed by mamorphological                                                                                          studied the leaf morphological, anatomical and cytological characteristics of the "blunt with blossom" cucumber (BBC) by comparing it with normal cucumber (NC). Morphological and anatomical analysis revealed that "blunt with blossom" caused a decrease of the leaf area, a reduction of the leaf, palisade tissue and spongy tissue thickness, an increase of the length of the up epidermis and the density of stomata of the young leaves. But most of the stomata of the young and the outspread leaf closed in "blunt with blossom" cucumber. Moreover, "blunt with blossom" resulted in remarkable changes in cytology, which are the vacuolation of cells and the dissolution of nuclear envelope, chloroplast and vacuoles membranes.
