THE INFLUENCE OF SUBSTRATE TYPES IN NON-HEATED  PLASTIC TUNNEL CULTIVATION ON SWEET PEPPER YIELDING AND POSTHARVEST QUALITY OF FRUITS

Summary

The aim of the study was the comparison of the yielding of two sweet pepper cultivars - Bendigo F1 and Lamuyo F1, grown in non-heated greenhouse on three substrates: soil, heated straw and rockwool. The total and marketable yield of fruits were determined. After harvest the dry matter and vitamin C content as well as weight loss and marketable quality after storage were evaluated. The significant differences in marketable yield and average weight of Ist-class of sweet pepper were determined. The highest yield was observed in cultivation on rockwool. There were no significant differences in weight loss of stored fruits between pepper cultivated on rockwool and soil or straw. The fruits of pepper grown on straw were characterized by lower content of dry matter and vitamin C, when compared to pepper cultivated on rockwool or in soil.
