SUBSEQUENT EFFECT OF ROOT PRODUCTION METHOD ON THE YIELD AND QUALITY OF WITLOOF CHICORY IN THE HYDROCULTURE

Summary

In a three year experiment conducted under climate conditions of central Poland postponed influence of field cultivation method, 
irrigation and plant density on forcing effect of witloof chicory (cv. Magnum F1) was researched. The chicory was grown on the
ridges or on flat field under conditions of natural precipitation or additional irrigation and at density of 150, 225 and 300 thousand
of plants per 1 hectare. It was found that the yield of chicon was much more influenced by watering during field production than
by cultivation method or plant density. The additional irrigation of root plantation was favourable to the yield and quality of chicons
as well. The results achieved from hydroponic forcing of witloof chicory revealed significant influence of all researched factors on
core browning appearance. More symptoms were noticed on the plants grown on the ridges under natural precipitation.
An additional irrigation reduced the amount of disorder. Low plant density was conducive to more frequently core browning incidence.
